During the daily operation of steel grain silos, priority must first be given to cleaning and sorting tasks prior to grain intake. Grains of different varieties or varying moisture levels must not be indiscriminately mixed during storage; doing so risks issues such as moisture absorption, spontaneous heating, or even mold growth. Before loading grain into the silo, it is essential to verify in advance that the interior is dry and that the ventilation equipment is functioning correctly. Simultaneously, any residual old grain or dust within the silo must be thoroughly removed to prevent pest infestation. During the loading process, efforts should be made to ensure a uniform flow of grain to prevent localized accumulation, which can lead to uneven pressure distribution within the silo. For common grain varieties-such as corn, wheat, and soybeans-internal temperature and humidity must be rationally controlled in response to seasonal changes. During the high-temperature periods of summer, it is particularly critical to intensify ventilation and cooling efforts; where necessary, a combination of mechanical and natural ventilation methods should be employed to enhance storage safety and extend the duration for which grain quality is preserved.

 

During the long-term operational phase of steel silos, routine maintenance is equally critical. Management personnel must regularly inspect the silo body's connection points, bolts, sealing structures, and foundation for any signs of looseness, corrosion, or water seepage; any issues discovered must be addressed promptly to prevent compromising the silo's overall service life. During rainy weather, particular attention should be paid to monitoring the silo roof and drainage system to ensure they remain unobstructed, thereby preventing rainwater backflow that could lead to grain spoilage. Furthermore, internal grain condition monitoring must not be overlooked; regular checks for temperature fluctuations and pest activity should be conducted to ensure early detection and prompt intervention. For large-scale steel silos, the installation of intelligent temperature monitoring and automated ventilation systems can further enhance management efficiency. Only through a foundation of standardized storage practices, scientific maintenance, and regular inspections can steel silos truly realize their inherent advantages-namely, high capacity, storage stability, and minimal loss-thereby providing a reliable guarantee for both grain storage and subsequent processing operations.
